Why do you need to fight these impulses? What makes you think your wife isn't supplementing your sex life in the same way?

Baptism at age 11 next Saturday
by Fatfreek ini just learned that one of my grandsons (whom i've never met) will be baptized on saturday.
he will be twelve in november.
what's happening within the publishing company to inspire this sort of thing?

They have to snare them at a young age, before they have a chance to experience life and realize there's something better out there. They're always saying that it's the most important decision you can make, and yet they're encouraging kids 11 years old and even younger to do it. This shows how desperate they are to hang on to it's membership, because the door-to-door ministry isnt bringing them in nearly as quickly as they're leaving.

I'm not surprised by this. With the ever dwindling intelligence level of the information presented at the meetings and in their publications, the real question should be why would anyone older than 11 dedicate themselves to this religion?

Study ended because he asked too many embarrassing questions.
by bronzefist innothing new here just a reminder to those who havent been to hall for awhile.. a workmate just had his study cut off.
there were some things he was being taught that he agreed with (trinity) some he didnt (faithful and discreet slave being a group of old men in ny).
here are a couple of interesting facts:.

So any bible student that asks a question that can't be answered by opening up their asinine Reasoning book and reading word for word isn't allowed the "privilege" of studying anymore? This person was studying a short time and is already smarter than the one studying with him. What does that say about their religion?

What told you that no holy spirit was moving the BOE?
by Crumpet ini've read on and off here of various things that told people that god's spirit was not directing the organisation.. personally for me on the last time i got dfed it was the fact that i got reinstated by a meeting of the boe at the exact same moment i was smoking my first cigarettes in 7 months.
i didnt question it exactly but it did seem odd.
i mean i had no idea that they were discussing my reinstatement at that moment that i succumbed and had decided in my favour.

During a tract campaign once, our service overseer gave a suggestion from the platform as to how to present the tract. All of a sudden it became more than a suggestion, everybody had to present the tract that way. Anyone who didn't was counseled by the elders, even if they were following the suggestions in the KM. People were afraid to report how many tracts they had really placed because then the elders would know they weren't following their direction. That's when I finally realized that these men were just making up their own rules, they were "teaching commands of men as doctrine" like the pharisees.

Heart Condition? Congenital or learned?
by JWdaughter inok, all you former elders and such.
.when people-non jws, ex jws-are referred to as having a bad 'heart condition' is it the jw belief that they stubbornly decided to be anti jw/jehovah or is it that they were doomed from the start (so to speak) to be unable to accept the truth?
do they think it is inborn-their fate-to have the right heart condition or not?

Saying someone has a bad heart is the same as saying they're an apostate. It's merely an ugly label to slap on them so that what they think and say is automatically discredited. If they don't have a bad heart, than maybe there's validity from an intellectual standpoint as to why they left the "truth", or didn't accept it in the first place.

If they have a 'Good Heart' Jehovah will assure they get the 'Troof'
by AK - Jeff ini can't recall how many times i heard this tripe as a jw, especially following a sincere question regarding how people in china or india would have the same chance to hear it as those in the us.. i often wondered how god would account things at armageddon - would it go something like this?;.
" now as for you, mitmah and family.
you have lived your entire lives in the depths of the burmese jungles.

If jehovah makes sure they get the truth, then why did we have to bring it to their doors? Anyone?

Elders ARE idiots!!
by Gill inthis has always been my opinion, even as a 'loyal' jw!
i thought that elders were idiots.
i have only ever known one who has ever had any real education, a solicitor and he was an arrogant twonk, the rest were a pathetic bunch of bullies who 'appeared' to be loving and kind but were infact out to find out the shit about everyone and cause as much trouble for everyone as possible.

Idiot might be too strong a word, but they're clearly not qualified to do all the things they're asked to do. These are men with only high school diplomas who work primarily blue-collar jobs being asked to be psychologists, marriage counselors, sex therapists, spiritual guides. Most of the ones I knew, their own families were a mess, but they were telling other parents what they were doing wrong in raising their children. Ok, most of them were idiots.

I had a friend when I still attended meetings who used to make sex tapes with his wife (for their own private use). I thought that was pretty cool. Then he made the mistake of asking the elders what the society's view on that would be. Not so cool!
